Authorised service or local repair
A fair look at both, from a company that is on both sides: we run LG's authorised service centre and repair other brands as an independent repairer.
- Visit charge: told to you on the call, before we visit
- Warranty: 90 days on the work done
Should I use the brand's authorised service centre or a local repairer?
If your appliance is under the maker's warranty, go to the brand's authorised service first, because the repair may be free and an outside repair can void the warranty. After the warranty ends, a good independent repairer can be a sensible choice, and you can compare quotes. Either way, get the diagnosis and the price before work starts, and a bill that states the repair warranty.
Where we stand
We run the LG authorised service centre at Dostipur, Diamond Harbour, and we are an authorised dealer for Carrier Midea and Blue Star ACs. For every other brand we are an independent repairer, not the brand's authorised service centre.
So we see both sides every day, and the advice below holds whether or not you call us.
What authorised service gives you
- Free repair of covered faults while the warranty lasts
- The brand's own parts and repair process
- A service record with the brand, which helps for later claims and extended warranty plans
- Charges after the warranty at the brand's rates, which you can compare with others
What an independent repairer gives you
- One call for appliances of several brands
- Repairs for older models after the warranty
- A quote you can compare with the brand's
- A local team you can call back directly
The warranty point
Many warranty cards, LG's among them, exclude damage when the product has been repaired by an unauthorised person or with unapproved parts. So while an appliance is in warranty, do not let anyone else open it. Check the card for your brand.
The Department of Consumer Affairs runs a Right to Repair portal, launched in 2022, where brands share manuals, service centre lists, spare part prices and warranty details. It is a good place to check before you decide.
Questions to ask any repairer
- What is the visit charge, and is it adjusted against the repair
- What is the fault, and what will the repair cost, before work starts
- Which part will be fitted, and does it have its own warranty
- How long is the warranty on the work
- Will I get a written bill
Questions
Can you repair my LG appliance under warranty?
We run the LG authorised service centre at Dostipur, Diamond Harbour. Call 81000 04326 with the model and warranty details and we explain how the visit is arranged. See LG appliance repair.
Are you the authorised service for Samsung, Voltas or other brands?
No. For brands other than LG we are an independent repairer. If your appliance is under that brand's warranty, its own service may repair it free, so check that first.
What warranty do you give on repairs?
Our repairs carry 90 days on the work done. Parts carry the part maker’s warranty, where it has one.
