Can a side by side fridge be repaired at home?
Yes, almost always. Side by side fridges are frost-free, with electronic controls, fans and often an ice maker and water dispenser. Most faults, such as defrost failures, fan motors, sensors, boards, door seals and dispenser valves, are repaired at home. Gas and compressor work is also done on site, though it takes longer.

What is different about a side by side
The freezer and fridge stand next to each other, each with a full height door. Most have a main control board, an inverter board for the compressor, several sensors and two or more fans. Many have an ice maker and a water dispenser fed from a water line or a tank.
More parts means more things can stop, but it also means a fault is often in one small part, not in the cooling system itself.
What you can safely check first
- Note any code or warning on the door display and tell us when you book
- Check that a child lock, holiday mode or demo mode is not turned on
- Listen for the fans when you press the door switches in
- Leave space at the back and sides, and keep the front grille at the bottom free of dust
- For the dispenser, check that the water supply or tank is full and the valve is open

What the technician does
The technician reads the display, checks the board inputs and the sensors, and opens the freezer back panel to see the evaporator. For dispenser faults they check the water valve, the pipe for frozen sections and the switches. Some parts for these fridges are model specific and may need to be ordered. The technician tells you the price before ordering or fitting anything.

Is my side by side still under warranty?
Check your bill and the brand's warranty card. If it is under warranty, the brand's own service may repair it free. We are an independent repairer for most brands, and the LG authorised service centre at Dostipur, Diamond Harbour for LG.
Why is there water on the floor under my side by side?
Common causes are a blocked defrost drain, a leaking water line to the dispenser, or a cracked drain tray at the bottom. Mop it up, and if the fridge has a water line, close its valve until it is checked.
Do you need to move the fridge?
Usually only a little, to reach the back. Clear a path around it before the visit.
