What are the common problems in a fully automatic top load machine?
Slow or no filling from low tap pressure or a clogged inlet valve, a lid switch or lid lock that stops the program, a pulsator that hums but does not turn, and a tub that knocks hard in spin because the load is uneven. Low pressure and an uneven load you can fix yourself. The others need a technician to test the part.

What you can safely check first
Top loaders fill by tap pressure alone. Homes fed by an overhead tank often have weak pressure on the top floor, close to the tank, so the machine fills slowly or stops with a filling error.
- Open the tap fully and check that water comes out of it with good force
- Turn the tap off, unscrew the inlet hose at the machine, and rinse the small mesh filter inside the inlet
- Spread the clothes evenly round the pulsator. A single heavy blanket on one side can stop the spin
- Clean the lint filter inside the tub if your machine has one
- Make sure the machine stands level and does not rock
- Switch off at the socket for a few minutes, then start again, to reset the controls

Questions
Can a top load machine work with low water pressure?
It can, but filling is slow, and some machines stop with an error if the tub does not fill in time. A small booster pump on the line is one fix. The technician checks the pressure before replacing any part, so you do not pay for a valve that was not faulty.
