Why is my washing machine not spinning?
Most often the load is uneven, such as one heavy blanket on one side, and the machine stops the spin to protect itself. Other causes are water that has not drained, a door or lid that is not latched, a worn belt, or a fault in the motor, its capacitor or the control board. Spread the load and check that the water has drained before you book.

Common causes
- Uneven or too heavy a load, so the machine senses imbalance and cancels the spin
- Water still in the drum. The machine will not spin until it drains
- Door or lid not fully latched, or a faulty door lock or lid switch
- Spin set to off or low, or a delicate program that spins gently
- Worn or loose drive belt on belt-driven machines
- Motor fault, worn carbon brushes on some motors, or a failed motor capacitor
- Clutch fault on some top loaders, or a control board fault

Questions
The drum turns in the wash but not in the spin. Why?
The wash runs the drum slowly, while the spin needs the full speed of the motor and a drained drum. So a drain fault, an imbalance, a worn belt or a clutch fault on a top loader can stop the spin while the wash still works.
Can I keep using the machine without the spin?
You can wash, but the clothes stay heavy and wet and dry slowly. Do not keep restarting the spin again and again with a heavy wet load, because it strains the motor and the belt.
